Their last night in Hawaii was Independence Day, when fireworks were due to go off at any moment. So happened that they had a great view of the site from their private deck overlooking the beach.

“Thanks, Joel. I’ll see you tomorrow.” Ethan hung up his cell phone and waved to the concierge from the main house, who had come all this way with their dinner of prime rib. Ice cream for dessert, yes! Jasmine was mostly looking forward to the ice cream. “Joel says we’re ready to take off at ten tomorrow. It’ll be a long flight to Florence, but the plane has Netflix working again.”

“Give the captain my thanks.” Flying to Hawaii had been dire with the web networks down. There wasn’t enough sex in the world to make that flight go by faster. Joel their pilot had made it his mission to keep Mrs. Cole happy when they flew to Europe. She appreciated it. “Also, thank the chef for this amazing dinner.”

Two plates went down. Jasmine picked up her fork, salivating over carefully seasoned prime rib. The announcement for the fireworks echoed down the beach.

A third plate joined them.

“What’s this? We got a ghost coming?”

Ethan stood up the moment a buzzer rang from within the guest house.

He had said nothing about a guest joining them for dinner… which made the champagne Jasmine had ordered feel so silly. Here she had thought they would sit next to each other on their deck and watch the fireworks go off over the ocean. They’d canoodle, drink good champagne, and then go take a bath together and make love… or maybe the other way around. All those plans went to hell when a man in business casual waltzed through the guest house and smiled at Jasmine.

“Mrs. Cole! Am I the first man to call you that since last week? Beautiful wedding, by the way. Everyone’s still talking about it.”

Jasmine smiled coolly at Ken Andrews, one of the biggest real estate moguls back home. I’ve got an idea what this is about. Doesn’t mean I’m okay with it. “Thank you, Mr. Andrews. I still haven’t gotten used to it.”

“I married my wife ten years ago and she still hasn’t gotten used to being called Mrs. Andrews.”

Jasmine highly doubted that, but she didn’t say anything. Instead, she and her husband invited Ken to sit with them on their patio and watch the fireworks. And talk business, of course.

“Ken here happened to be in Honolulu when I did some calling around about our little predicament,” Ethan explained to Jasmine. He took up the responsibility of pouring their guest a drink. In the distance, the first red and blue firework went off. “Turns out he was looking at properties.”

“Don’t worry, Mrs. Cole,” Ken said. “Your secret is safe with me.”

“Ugh.” Jasmine took out her phone and began recording the fireworks. “Can’t believe you told somebody about that.”

“What are you doing over there?”

Jasmine glanced at her husband. “Making memories without you.”

The door buzzed again.

“What now?” Jasmine got up since her husband was so busy.
